Wake up your weekend with this fun and fruity cocktail that your wellness coach would approve of! This CBD Cherry & Kombucha Cocktail naturally has a minimal amount of alcohol and caffeine from the fermentation process in the Kombucha. You should avoid it if you are sensitive to those ingredients.
Origins of Kombucha
Kombucha is a fermented tea drink that first originated in China. Brought over by a Korean doctor who was treating the Emporer at that time, it was considered to be full of healthy benefits.
Trade routes allowed the drink to move to Europe. However, its popularity lowered during the war because of the shortage of sugar and tea. Luckily, a 1960’s study in Switzerland on the comparative benefits to yogurt, reinstated Kombucha as a popular health drink.
How to Make Kombucha
The process of how to make Kombucha may seem a little strange but fascinating. There are a variety of ways to produce kombucha. The process involves a combination of adding black or green tea with sugar and allowing it to ferment via a S.C.O.B.Y. This stands for symbiotic colony of bacteria and yeast.
The disk-shaped fungus floats on the top of the mixture and causes the fermentation. This fantastic specimen can continuously duplicate itself, meaning you could make infinite batches of kombucha with just one S.C.O.B.Y.
After the mixture is fermented, store it in a refrigerator for more time, which creates carbonation. Time results in a tangy, carbonated beverage that has a small amount of alcohol via fermentation.
The Rise of the Popularity of Kombucha
The modern-day popularity of Kombucha began when people in the United States started distributing the S.C.O.B.Y.’s so they could brew the tea at home. It wasn’t until GT Dave, founder of GT’s Kombucha, started the first domestic after a loved one had used it in conjunction with their cancer treatment. He believed that the tea was part of her healing. However, no reliable studies have proven such a thing.
Find Kombucha For Brewing
You can find a variety of kombucha flavors or, if you prefer unflavored, at your local health food store. You can also purchase your own S.C.O.B.Y. from an online source, even on amazon. We put together this recipe with the flavors that we like. Still, you are welcome to sub other flavors into your taste.
